We are so sad to be leaving Krakow. It was such a surprisingly wonderful and educational experience, visiting the camps and salt mines, and especially visiting Tarnow enhanced by going with Jola, who we can now say is our good friend. We spent a lot of quality time together.
NOTA BENE: If you already read yesterday's Blog about visiting Tarnow, go back and re-read the part about our sister-law-law, Helen's, email to me with more details about her family's experiences that we did not know.
ALSO: We welcome Comments and Feedback, so if you care to do so, please send me an email at jillopy610@gmail.com, not through the Blog. We'd love to hear from you. Thanks!
But now we are anticipating another great new experience in Warsaw, especially because we will be learning and exploring this new town on our own. We don't have much planned except we know we are going to the Ballet to see Romeo and Juliet, and we have a few good restaurants lined up.
Here we are at the Domestic Terminal in Krakow. It is pretty small and sparse.
Hmmmm...LOT Polish Airlines...another new experience, but it was on a jet this time, not a prop plane.
Aerial view upon arriving in Warsaw...looks a bit gray, Communist-era style.
The hotel building has been recently restored and is quite attractive. Everything is large, which is a big change for us, since we usually stay in small apartments. But since we didn't know Warsaw at all, and it's a big city, we thought we would want the services of a hotel.
One of their sports of choice on TV is Pool...exciting!
Our room is quite spacious and well appointed.
And then decided to have dinner at the hotel, since we were kind of tired. Friday night is their typical Polish Menu night. It was quite nice.
Salmon tartar...
Venison...
Pierogi, one of their national dishes...they're good, a little like ravioli...BUT WHERE'S THE RED SAUCE?
Before we called it a night we stopped at the Front Desk and had a nice chat with Ekaterina about what to do tomorrow, our first day in Warsaw. She was absolutely adorable and charming, Russian from a small town in Eastern Russia, here in Warsaw studying Environmental Engineering. She has a Chilean-Russian boyfriend, doesn't like the politics in Russia, and so does not want to go back. She recommended taking a City Tour tomorrow to get the lay of the land. We never do this because we like to explore on our own, but in this case since we were so unfamiliar with the city we decided to do it. She also gave us some good restaurant recommendations.
And so to bed.
